Perfecting Your Social Media

Perfecting your posts on social media shouldn't be rocket science. In Chapter 3 of the Art of Social Media, Guy Kawasaki makes perfection simple.

Of course, it's important to be interesting when creating a post for social media. No one wants to read something boring and irrelevant. Speaking of relevancy, when creating posts, you have to remember who your target audience is. For example, if follow a page for music content, I definitely wouldn't want to see sports content that has nothing to do with music on that page.

Being bold is something that Guy Kawasaki has an interesting theory on "if you're not pissing people off on social media, you're not using it right." I think that that is a great way to think about it to help get over the anxiety of posting.

What I think is most important when posting on social media (on a personal account) is that you remain authentic in your posts. While I was reading, I was thinking about my own experience with social media, specifically Instagram. I rarely ever post on there because I'm too wrapped up on trying to post something that will be a 100% hit to all who see it, and that it's perfect, and that's not realistic. Since it's my own personal Instagram page, I shouldn't have to feel constrained as to what I post. If I want to post a picture of my cat, for example, I should.

There's room for both personal success and personal happiness. Here's a picture of my cat for your time :)

  1. Wow, I definitely see Guy's point of view since controversy drives engagement. However, I love that you point out the importance of remaining authentic! I find that authenticity can maintain a more steady engagement, whereas controversy can bring peaks and lows of engagement.
