The Art of Social Media - Event Socialization
If you find yourself responsible for socializing an event it is so important to use effective methods to keep your audience engaged. Some tips that Guy Kawasaki illustrates in The Art of Social Media can help to make your event a success, and one to remember.
Hashtags
Using a short hash tag will make it easy for people to remember to tweet about your event and spread the word. The best part about the hashtag is that all tweets made about your event made with that hashtag will show up in one place.
Using a short hashtag is important to reduce the chance for spelling errors (which would result in the tweet not showing up with the rest of the event tweets), and for people to remember the hashtag in general. If I were to use the hashtag #ONUisthebestprivateuniversity, that opens up the door for many spelling errors and misreading. A tag like #ONUlove would be much better to use.
Livestreaming
Livestreaming has become even more of a helpful method of event coverage in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Before, livestreaming was a way to get even more people to attend an event who otherwise may not have been able to show up. But in today's world, livestreaming is the forefront of event hosting. With the limited number of people that are allowed to be in a room at one time, to the dangers of being in physical contact with others, livestreaming and livestreaming services have taken the reigns of the way we do socialization in 2021. With this, it is incredibly important to use livestreaming and its services to you and your organization's advantage.
Photo Opportunities
Having a place for photo opportunities is a great way to get people to engage with your event. Providing a backdrop for people to pose in front of makes a great excuse to take a picture and post it (that's exactly what you want, exposure). In times like these, during a pandemic, physical photo opportunities aren't the best ways to increase event exposure. Providing virtual backgrounds may enhance the experience of the attendees without being in person.
I completely agree that using that the length of a hashtag is imperative to its success and it's such a fun way to highlight an event. Livestreaming has absolutely taken over social media by storm, it's amazing to be able to join events from anywhere! A great example of this are livestreamed concerts, this has been especially helpful to artists during the ongoing pandemic. I love the idea of a virtual background as a photo opportunity, in my experience another great way to encourage photos is the use of a customized filter (often done through snapchat) that promotes the event.
