The New Old Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift announced that she had finished rerecording her second studio album "Fearless". Yes, you read that right. The album "Fearless" that originally came out in 2008, is coming out again on April 9th, 2021.
She announced the 'new' album "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" yesterday on Instagram, saying that the album was done, and would include six unreleased songs, along with the original Platinum Edition track list. The track list can be found here. The first song to be rereleased was "Love Story", released on the night after her album announcement. "Love Story (Taylor's Version)" can be found here.
The reason behind Taylor Swift rerecording and rereleasing "Fearless" is that in 2019, she announced that Big Machine, her former record label, sold the masters to her songs. The sale of her masters gave her little control over the music that she wrote. The purpose of rerecording her music is to have music that is under her own personal control.
It is so empowering to see Taylor Swift work so incredibly hard and take ownership of what is rightfully hers.

I'm happy Taylor is finally able to start taking control back of her earlier albums! It's awful what happened to her, and really showed how many people in the music industry don't truly care about artistry, they only care about the money. Hopefully she can get the rest of them out soon so people don't have to keep listening to the old ones.
ReplyDeleteSo many of the song on the Fearless album are my all time favorites, especially Love Story. This was definitely a win for women in the music industry and incredibly powerful to see Taylor take back her power as an artist in such a male-favoring industry. I'm super proud of this release and Taylor's exercise of power!
