Top 5: CALM- 5 Seconds of Summer

I don't know about you, but In my free time I always find myself listening to music. Lately I've been really invested in 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS). I've been a fan since the very impressionable age of 14, but I've recently reignited my love for them after a brief lapse of keeping up with the band. As I write this post, I'm listening to a playlist of the majority of their discography.

5 Seconds of Summer's fourth studio album "CALM" was released March 27, 2020. The name "Calm" creates an acronym of all of the members' first names (Calum, Ashton, Luke, Michael). This album has 12 songs, and one digital bonus track song, bringing the total to 13 songs.

Despite this album being released during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, "CALM" charted number 1 in Australia and the United Kingdom, and number 2 in the US. The US Billboard charts started a week earlier than planned, due to 11,000 copies being released early, resulting in the charting potential to be thrown off.

Now that the background information is out of the way, we can get to my top five songs from this album. Picking out a top five was extremely difficult. All thirteen of these songs are a 10/10 in my book.

1. No Shame
2. Lover of Mine
3. Wildflower
4. Red Desert
5. Best Years

No Shame is a commentary on today's society in an upbeat manner. Lover of Mine is a beautiful love song about realizing past mistakes. Wildflower is a trippy, happy love song. Red Desert is a powerful song alluding to the Red Desert of Australia. Finally, Best Years is a love ballad, plain and simple (and beautiful).

I could not recommend this album enough! All of the songs mentioned, and not mentioned are absolutely worth a listen. I hope you'll give it a try if you haven't already!

  1. Music is a huge love of mine as well, I find myself listening to music during pretty much everything! I haven't taken much time to listen to 5SOS over the years. However, after reading this post I just might have to! Congratulations to them on CALM placing so high on those charts despite the pandemic.
