Chapter 3 Reading Analysis
Chapter 3 of "Social Media for Strategic Communication" is all about building and maintaining a personal brand. Something that stood out to me in this chapter was the overall concept of a "personal brand." An example of a personal brand given in the book was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's brand on Instagram. He has a consistent message to his audience and he sprinkles in promotions along with authentic content, creating a sustainable image for himself.
It didn't really occur to me that The Rock can be thought of as a brand. I guess I never realized it because he does a great job at maintaining his brand. It's odd to think of people as "brands," but when you think about it, everyone has their own personal brand on and offline. For example, something that could be a part of my own personal brand is my love for cats, or my love of music.
I agree with you that it's weird to think of people having "brands" nowadays. Back when social media first started, it seemed like people joined the platform just to express themselves and have fun. Now, there's other motives like advertising, selling merch and doing partnerships, which is interesting to think about. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI read the first line and became so excited! The field of personal branding is a love of mine. I agree that at first it's weird to consider that everyone has their own brand, but I've come to see it as an important aspect of being a part of the social media community. Building up your personal brand can really help express who you are to your audience, even if you just see them as followers these people constantly consume your content so they inherently become an audience. Personal branding can be especially powerful in relaying what you stand for as a business or as an individual. For example, I would want to include women empowerment and racial equality into my brand because it is something that I strongly believe in. But it's also a great way to establish a more intimate connection with your audience. Similar to how you mentioned that loving cats and music is a part of your brand, mine includes traveling and going to concerts. These are simple interests that can create a great bridge of communication with your audience and even attract new people!
