My Capstone Article Presentation
Next Monday, the 29th, I present my chosen journal article to my capstone class. Even though it is supposed to be a "practice session" for what it would be like to be in a graduate school class (even though I'm not going to graduate school), I'm incredibly nervous. Fifteen minutes to create and maintain a discussion... oh my.
Honestly, I found my article by messing around with keywords on the library's database. I started by using "Twitter" and other related words. That keyword led me down a rabbit hole of research articles about fan Twitter (aka Stan Twitter). I knew that there had to be research about fan behavior and relationships with media, but I definitely didn't expect to find an interesting study about it. The one I'll be presenting has to do with fan relationships with fans of the Twilight Saga and the Harry Potter film series. With topics like that, there was no way I was passing it up, I found it too funny. Hopefully the fact that I find it funny and interesting will make it easier to present and keep a discussion going
Since I'm incredibly indecisive, I ended up sending my professor two articles: the one I found myself, and another from a previous social psychology class. Essentially leaving it up to chance of what my professor would decide was better, she emailed me with nothing more than "I'm a fan."
And that's the story of how I left the topic of my entire presentation up to messing around on the database, and my professor's judgement. I'll follow this blog up with another on how it all went!
Sometimes the best opportunities come from complete chance. It's great that you were able to find an article that interested you so much. Presentations are difficult to get through when there's no interest in the topic, I know from experience. You're going to do amazing, I just know it. I'm sending all the luck and positivity your way. Good luck!
