Summer Series: Part 1

So far this semester, not much has been going on. Instead of trying to muster up a story about my current situation, I thought I'd relive my summer shenanigans through blogging.

Earlier this summer, around the end of May, my friend Jasmyn and I traveled to New Orleans. This trip was very a spur of the moment decision. We were hesitant at first, given the COVID-19 pandemic, but we made sure to take every precaution to keep ourselves and others safe.

One of the first things we did was try beignets for the first time at Cafe Beignet. I highly recommend trying beignets at least once, they were fantastic. Later that day, we visited Jackson Square, to my surprise was not as busy as I had thought. We walked around for a while, taking in the gorgeous scenery, when a couple came up to us and asked Jasmyn to take their picture, when in reality, she was filming their proposal! It was such a cute moment to be a part of.

The next day we went to JAMNOLA, which is an experiential art pop-up, with photo opportunities throughout. Then we walked Bourbon Street and visited Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo. I absolutely loved the architecture in the French Quarter. We also did a rum tasting at a small, local distillery called Happy Raptor, which opened February of 2020. They had four types of rum at the time, and one seasonal "King Cake" rum that was not available at the time. Their entire distilling process is done in-house in their relatively small building.  The rum was great and so was our tour guide.

Despite only being in New Orleans for less than three whole days, it was an unforgettable experience, and I'd love to go back sometime.
